President Donald Trump begins a six-day European trip amid blazing anxiety among US allies over his commitment to the transatlantic alliance and antipathy for its leaders and institutions while stirring new disquiet about his cozy, baffling relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Such concerns will color a tense NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium, beginning Wednesday; Trump’s long-delayed visit to Britain, where turmoil over Brexit is raging; and his first standalone summit with Putin in Finland on Monday.

  1. Something that puzzles me about tRumpsky’s thinking (I should say one of many things!) — does he not understand that the U.S. is one of the richest country on this planet? Why then does he think other, “poorer” countries should pay as much as we do?

I don’t understand much about “world economics” (I’m lucky to get my own budget balanced!), but it just seems logical to me that we would carry a bigger load. Am I missing something?

    • You’re not missing anything. But, remember that Trump and his minion are not thinking and acting rationally. To them, it’s all about the perception of winning. Reality, for many, is in the eye of the beholder.

The subject came up in the comments on another blog, and I noticed that tildeb had commented elsewhere on the post in question. The post wasn’t on IQ. I forget exactly which blog it was on or the original topic of the post. Anyway, seeing an opportunity to trigger tildeb, knowing he’d be unable to not respond if I went on a “Poes law” mini-rant about IQ and race, I did so. It was hyperbole-filled and beautifully done, if I must say so myself, and I do. Minutes later, a long diatribe to my comment popped up written by tildeb, though my comment was not in any way in response to anything he’d said. He was hungry for attention and frothing at the keyboard for the chance to argue just how “right” and “smart” his bigoted views on race and IQ were. And…I completely ignored it. I tossed out a line baited with a fat worm and my boy bit. I laughed, giggled, and awarded myself another Nobel Prize for my actions. Here he was, all worked up by my deliberate hyperbole on IQ, ready to argue, and he was completely ignored. Had ta suck a bit. Was my action here mature, responsible, important, necessary, or helpful to the world. No. Not at all. But it made me grin, and, these days, it ain’t so easy to find things that make me do that. So, have a glass of wine tonight and toast me, your very childish, immature internet pal cause I’m a petty, but harmless, ass who enjoys triggering bigoted, racist blowhards who simply can’t avoid being triggered by hyperbole they don’t like reading. Ah, time for some pizza! I earned it. 🙂

        • Speaking of the devil, looks like our racist pal want s to start some smack with you over on Mak’s blog again. Dude’s like one of Pavlov’s dogs. He slobbers on command without the slightest bit of will power to stop himself.

        • I saw. That’s gonna trigger a..23 paragraph, long-ass, response which will conclude, and contain, multiple references referring to your idiocy and/or lack of intellect. I’ll betcha a pizza slice I’m right.

    • Understanding international politics isn’t his strong point. Earlier today he was making quite a big deal about the US “protecting” Europe from Russia. This ignores the obvious fact that Russia’s economy is about the size of Spain’s. That means it’s considerably smaller than say France (or Germany or the UK). Russia could barely invade Ukraine successfully – much less any EU country.
The reason the US has historically poured money into NATO was because America dictated NATO policy. The Russian complaint through the ages was that NATO was an American *puppet*.
That Trump seems to not grasp any of that is truly appalling.

  2. In answer to the original question, Bob, I believe that NATO will outlive Trump – he can’t just withdraw from the alliance with an executive order. Besides, all of his rants are for his base supporters – and they don’t get any baser.

      • Looks like Mak had to take down his post on feminism due to tildeb goin’ ape shit again. Ya know, I used to kinda think that guy had interesting things to say from time to time, but his racist bullshit is so obvious it’s sickening. And what makes it worse, is the bigoted ass just won’t say, “Yeah, I’m white ‘n I’m bettin’ you all just cause of it.” Makes him a bigger shit-head, in my opinion. The guy was SO easy to trigger. I’ll keep my eye out for ’em ‘n, when the chance arises organically, I’ll do it again. Petty? Yeah, but it’s the small things in life that bring pleasure–you know, like makin’ racists get triggered.

    • Found it. I think this line was the gem that baited him into his pathetic racist rant:

The only people who grab onto IQ data showing the great superiority of whites and of white men over white women are racists, bigots and idjits with hate-filled agendas.

      • Yeah, that’s a beauty! I think I should get a Pulitzer for it. You see on there, I never once spoke to the idjit, addressed him or anything he said, or gave him any reason to think he had any right to address me. But I knew he’d take that bait–the racist ass. you know, there’s no law against being a racist ass. He needs to cut down on the 45 paragraph, word salad responses, and just take pride in his white superior mindset. Dude’s a piece of racist poop.
