Special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling of the 2016 presidential election favoring candidate Donald Trump is continuing its slow but steady march towards justice (hopefully). And now that Attorney General Jeff Sessions has been questioned, the first so far from Trump’s cabinet, Republican supporters of the president are ramping-up their counter claims that the FBI investigation is some sort of political witch-hunt.
These Trump supporters can see the writing on the wall (i.e. the obvious veracity of the potential charges), and they are getting desperate. Desperate circumstances demand desperate measures, so congressional Republicans have pulled out a boogeyman they hope will turn the FBI and DOJ against Mueller’s investigation. That is, they claim to have uncovered a secret society conspiracy within the federal government against Trump.
Secret societies and “shadow government” forces do indeed exist. Skull and Bones, the Bohemian Grove, the Bilderberg Group, and Freemasonry, are just a few notable examples. I remember as a child when my best friend told me I couldn’t go to his DeMolay meeting because… well, he wouldn’t say. Unless you are a member of such groups, you wouldn’t know what they are doing and why they want to keep it a secret. Secrecy naturally elicits suspicion, and suspicion naturally leads to wild speculation and fear-mongering. Whether this is warranted or not is beside the point.
However, one doesn’t need to be a member of a secret society to perceive Trump as a profoundly negative and dangerous figure as evidenced by his dismal poll numbers. Furthermore, if the Trump presidency is ruined by the Mueller investigation, its fall will result from its own criminal behavior and not because some malicious secret society set out to destroy it.
This boogeyman raised by Republicans only confirms the seriousness of the potential legal charges against the Trump administration. And, because of that, Republicans have every right to be worried.

Hee, hee. We’re meeting later at the predetermined time and place. No cellphones or other electronic devices, please (they could be used to track us). Mueller will be there along with Karl Marx’s eternal spirit… and, of course, Satan. See you there! 😀

Yeah, he’s certainly going for it… much to the dismay of halfhearted Democrats.

Think I’ve said it before, but my prefered long-game is shutting Trump down in this year’s elections, then dragging him to 2020… If he’s not already in jail, of course. The problem being, the guy can cause soooo much damage in that time.

What would be sorta’ fun is if we got a Democrat majority and they knocked down everything he proposed. Turn about is fair play, right?

Exactly what I was thinking. Simply cobble the bastard, reject everything, block everything… Do to him what the GOP did to Obama, only this time it would actually be in the country’s interest.

That’s gonna require the Dems to have balls and a backbone. Things that have left their species generations ago. “Hey! I’m a Democrat. You can tell by the way I bend over, spread my checks, and take whatever those tough guy Republicans give me.”

I am, too. The time is right for the Repukes to get swept out of offices across the country, but Dems simply MUST become more progressive AND aggressive if things are to change. Repukes have no moral problems with backing pedophiles and racists. They do it with pride, gusto, and, yes, balls. Thus, they are looked at as “tough”, “strong”, and “righteous” even though they are anything but. Dems need to hop on the populist bandwagon and follow through with their agenda to help the working person and tax the fuckin’ rich. Optics are important. Hopefully, they’ll have learned this and things will improve. We’ll see. I hear re-growing lost spines and balls isn’t an easy thing to do.

Good strategy, John, if it works. And yes, Trump is causing damage in the meantime.

Yeah, I can smell the desperation coming off the Repukelicans, can’t you? Secret society within the Government…fuck off! It ain’t no bloody secret. People in and outside of the Government hate the orange bastard and want to see his treasonous ass hang. Lock this piece of shit up already. Lordy be, but do I hate Repukelicans. And, one day, I hope a new creature will appear in Washington: A Democrat with balls and a spine.

“A Democrat with balls and a spine” – haven’t seen one of those creatures in a while.

Me either. You’d think by pure chance one would pop up, but nope.

I don’t see how Mueller’s investigation or charges will remove Trump from office – unless criminal charges are filed. That would likely get dragged out in the courts forever. I think this a job for the voters.

Perhaps, but Nixon was forced to resign in 1974 because his criminality-triggered impeachment was imminent.

That’s true, Bob. We can only hope.

And as bad as Nixon was, trump is more twisted and is on track to completely sell our country to sadistic business executives. Nixon actually cared a little about people. It’s sad that people from all around the country aren’t demanding their representatives in Congress impeach trump immediately.

Indeed. Nixon was paranoid. Trump is crazy.

Actually, I don’t think it would drag on for forever. It would certainly go to the Supreme Court, though. And, sadly, Supreme Court Inc. is so partisan trump would be cleared 5-4. It would still be a good thing to have him be indicted on criminal charges.
I don’t understand why his firing of James Comey isn’t an automatic reason for indictment since there is ample evidence of virtually everyone around him being involved in criminal conduct. Absolutely no one believes this went on without trump’s involvement. This entire episode will have been a farce without ending in a multitude of prison sentences and impeachment.

And a piece of shit president. Teddy Roosevelt supported him prior to the 1908 election, then went nuts when he saw Taft had pretended to care about people, then presided over a robber baron administration. Roosevelt should have run. He would have pushed for reforms that weren’t seen until the New Deal.
