Democrats made across-the-board gains in this year’s off-year elections.  They won gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey, took control of the Washington state senate, picked up seats in several state legislatures including Georgia, and won some mayoral races.  Additionally, a state referendum passed in Maine approving Medicaid expansion which was supported by the Democratic Party.
