NPR’s David Folkenflik reported Tuesday morning on a lawsuit filed by a man named Rod Wheeler that makes a remarkable claim: The Trump White House — or President Trump personally — may have been aware of or involved in a discredited Fox News story about the killing of a Democratic National Committee staffer last July.

Assuming the plaintiff in this case can prove collusion with Fox News by the White House (a big IF, I might add), then a wide range of repercussions are possible depending on the nature of the evidence. It could result in an embarrassing but relatively inconsequential political scandal; or, it could tip the balance towards impeachment in the House of Representatives. Situations like this are very difficult to predict.
