“We can’t leave everything to the free market. In fact, climate change is, I would argue, the greatest single free-market failure. This is what happens when you don’t regulate corporations and you allow them to treat the atmosphere as an open sewer.”

author, social activist, and filmmaker Naomi Klein

  1. Naomi Klein hits this/us squarely between the eyes. Forcing large corporations to be much, much more responsible for their manufacturing and waste is the ONLY way we will significantly decrease the “fly-wheel” picking up speed called climate change. I am not at all advocating smothering (bankrupting?) corporations that are an integral (healthy?) part of our economy, a thriving economy. But as Klein nails it, with the amount of money they spend on lobbyists on Capitol Hill to pad their ledgers, bottom-lines, and keep shareholders ecstatic, and NOT on eco-friendly responsibilities — pre- and post-production — we are ALL, on the entire planet, going to look like the stupid frog in the frying-pan. Then it’s too late; our feet and fat legs are caurterized off and it is a living hell thereafter!!! 😦

  2. Anyone with a trace of compassion and awareness can appreciate the dangers of ignoring climate change. This quote is a good argument to try and reach through the thick skulls of profit-obsessed maniacs who are running the show.
