NEWARK — David Samson, the former chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and confidant to Gov. Chris Christie, pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of using his influence at the authority to pressure United to re-start a discontinued flight to an airport close to his South Carolina vacation home.

Federal prosecutors have recommended the U.S. District Court Judge Jose Linares sentence Samson to anything from probation to two years in prison, though Linares said the law allows for a sentence of up to 10 years.
