The Obama administration is seeking to amend surveillance law to give the FBI explicit authority to access a person’s Internet browser history and other electronic data without a warrant in terrorism and spy cases.

The administration made a similar effort six years ago but dropped it after concerns were raised by privacy advocates and the tech industry.

  1. I wonder why so many of these law enforcement people, GOP congress members and some on TV want a police state where all information about your every word and deed is recorded and filed. There are countries that are like that and we as a nation claim to dislike and to be superior. So why do they want to make us like that. Thanks. Hugs

  3. What does the FBI think they’ll accomplish by having access to the email and browser history of EVERYBODY in the United States of America? Do they really believe they’ll find some terrorist emailing another terrorist about a plan to blow up the Golden Gate Bridge? The “masterminds” who actually plan things like that don’t email, they don’t talk on cell phones…they KNOW what they’re doing is illegal and that the government would like nothing better than to have a paper trail or a wire tap (some solid evidence). If the FBI really wanted to catch a terror cell, they’d plant a browwn-skinned man inside a mosque so he could hear what gets discussed in there; they’d have two dark-skinned fellows hanging out in a hookah lounge surreptitiously listening to other people’s conversations. You know what they’ll get from looking at random people’s browser history…They’ll get a sense of how much porn the American public looks at; they’ll see that women spend way too much time on Pinterest; they’ll find out who orders wine by the case.

  4. Hello Cara, please don’t forget our own home grown terrorists. We are a very diverse nation. We grow them of all kinds right here at home. From over the top Militia members who take over the Public spaces, to the hackers that sabotage our internet and banking institutions and sadly those who strike out against others due to their religious views, or in my case lack of. I agree the FBI wont learn much the way their going, but there needs to be a conversation on our own angers and threatening people. Hugs

There are homegrown terrorists…the militias who take over public spaces, the eco-terrorists who threaten to kidnap the CEO of the big corporation that dumps toxic waste in the rivers & streams, the corporate terrorists who burn down the local mom & pop store (causing mom & pop to cut their losses and retire) so they can open a megastore in its place.

    • While I agree that predatory stores like Walmart, pawn shops and payday loan company stores are weeds in a grand garden, and even worse a toxin that prevents growth, a sickness, no I was talking more along the Timothy James McVeigh types. Yes that is one example and they are a lot more, but I don’t like giving them name time and recognition as that is something they like. Hugs

  6. Sad..Kids. Dang I love them, but my son just put his clothes in the machine, with the comment, ” I need these tomorrow”. His task tomorrow =…. Staying at home getting his stuff done. I have a doctors appointment in the morning, and because I love my son, I will be doing my laundry late in the evening… Not sure why I am sharing this.. but can we consider our children as in house terrorists… ????
