Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner, R-OH defied the majority of his Republican caucus and put the Senate’s “clean” $40 billion Department of Homeland Security funding bill to a vote on Tuesday afternoon, March 3, 2015. The bill passed with a vote of 257 to 167, with three-quarters of the House Republicans voting against the bill. President Barack Obama later signed the bill funding the department on the frontlines of national security through September and the end of the 2015 fiscal year. The House Republicans objected to the bill that did not include provisions to defund President Barack Obama’s immigration actions.
