Social conservatives are hard at work pushing their agenda in every state where Republicans are in power.  To say that it’s all about God and guns is no exaggeration.

From Daily KosGod Goes Into Real Estate, Now Owns Town:

Dateline Winfield, Alabama–Because of COURSE it’s Alabama:

In a secret meeting where only the city council and the mayor were present, it was unanimously decided to cede ownership of the town to that person or persons known as “God”.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. And frankly I agree with you. Here is the text of the resolution:

“Whereas we acknowledge God is the owner of the City of Winfield and that it is a City under God. We acknowledge that at all times, He is in control.

From Daily KosSouth Carolina legislators want schools to teach an NRA-approved curriculum on the Second Amendment:

As diarist MNDem999 pointed out last month, three Republican legislators in the South Carolina House have introduced the Second Amendment Education Act of 2015.

The bill, two of whose originators are members of the Koch-founded and -funded American Legislative Exchange Council, sets aside each Dec. 15 as “Second Amendment Awareness Day.” If the bill passes, schools would have to sponsor poster contests for that day, with awards given to the best submissions. The bill also requires that teachers in elementary, middle and secondary public schools spend three consecutive weeks each year studying the Second Amendment.

As one might expect given ideological predilections of those who introduced the bill, that study wouldn’t be based on a balanced curriculum. Instead, it mandates that, 30 days after the statute passes, “the State Superintendent of Education shall adopt a curriculum developed or recommended by the National Rifle Association or its successor organization.”

    • Coincidentally, the Dec. 15th date selected in S.C. as “Second Amendment Awareness Day” is one day after the anniversary of the Sandy Hook school shooting massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.
