These kinds of incidents are becoming all too common in the U.S. Everyday Americans, particularly White Christians, must stand up and condemn this hatred espoused by racial and religious tribalism. “Casillas said “it is impossible” to accept Ravitch’s conclusions and that he and the family are asking federal officials to investigate.

The FBI said it is looking into the shooting to determine if any civil rights violations occurred. The district attorney forwarded her report to federal investigators.

FBI agent Brian Weber said investigators have “collected and reviewed documents and other evidence produced in connection with this matter and is working with the United States Attorney’s Office and the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.” Weber declined further comment.”

On July 7, recently re-elected Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch declared that there would be no charges filed against Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Gelhaus for his execution of unarmed 13-year-old Andy Lopez. The decision comes as little
surprise to the family and organizers in Santa Rosa who have led three mass demonstrations in response to the injustice, including the first demonstration held just a few hours after the announcement of Andy’s death, that garnered hundreds of supporters.

Ravitch ran an election campaign with the support of local law enforcement and clearly waited to announce the decision until after the election campaign was finished due to a wave of pressure placed on the candidates to prosecute Gelhaus. Ravitch should be immediately…
