More fringe views from the American Taliban, this time it’s a Scott Esk, a candidate for Oklahoma’s House District 91, who was responding to voter questions on his Facebook page:

Esk posted some old testament scripture that referred to homosexuality being punished.

Someone asked – “So just to be clear, you think we should execute homosexuals (presumably by stoning)?”

Esk responds – “I think we would be totally in the right to do it. That goes against some parts of libertarianism, I realize, and I’m largely libertarian, but ignoring as a nation things that are worthy of death is very remiss.”

Morris spoke with Esk by phone and asked him about the statement.

Esk said, “What I will tell you right now is that was done in the old testament under a law that came directly from God. And in that time, it was totally just, it came directly from God. I have no plans to, you know, reinstitute that in Oklahoma law. I do have some very huge moral misgivings about those kinds of sins.”

  1. Thank you for sharing this news, Robert. It’s truly alarming and astounding that people are actually this ignorance, judgmental, and so ready to murder others whose views are different than their own. (This time, I wanted to let you know I appreciate the news you share, but I just couldn’t click “like.”)

  2. Sigh. Onward Christian charity. Such as it is. What astounds me is not just their ignorance, but the obvious pride they take in such ignorance and callousness. If I believed such ugly stuff, I would think twice about saying so out loud, in front of that merciful god they have a lock on. Thanks for this, but it’d be nice if our fundamentalists would surprise me, just now and then, by showing some compassion and love of their neighbors. I never hold my breath though. – Linda

  3. The Bible describes, and advocates, some of the worst violence and hatred the world has ever seen. It’s terrifying that there are so many of its followers in govt and in our society.

  4. Here they are worried about Sharia Law being introduced in Oklahoma and look at their own kind. These Christian fundamentalist scare me more than any Al-Qaeda operative potentially acting in the United States. This is one time I think the NSA should be watching someone.
