Texas Republicans have adopted LGBT “conversion” as an official party position. Around 7,000 delegates approved without debate a platform that includes so-called “reparative therapy.” The Tea Party-backed plank recognizes “the legitimacy and efficacy of counseling… for those patients seeking healing and wholeness from their homosexual lifestyle.” Both New Jersey and California have banned so-called “conversion” therapy on minors.

  1. I hesitated clicking the “like” icon, Robert, even though I decided to because I appreciate the information. I wonder if we will ever be free of such mean-spirited ignorance and stupidity!

  2. What can you say? As though being gay doesn’t represent a wholeness or completeness in itself! Prejudice kills the heart of humanity.

  3. Isn’t that just typical that they would ignore the extensive data from mainstream medical professionals, the global scientific community and the World Heath Organization.

“Mainstream American medical and scientific organizations have expressed concern over conversion therapy and consider it potentially harmful. The advancement of conversion therapy may cause social harm by disseminating inaccurate views about sexual orientation. The ethics guidelines of major mental health organizations in the United States vary from cautionary statements about the safety, effectiveness, and dangers of prejudice associated with conversion therapy (American Psychological Association), to recommendations that ethical practitioners refrain from practicing conversion therapy (American Psychiatric Association) or from referring patients to those who do (American Counseling Association).

In 2012, the Pan American Health Organization (the North and South American branch of the World Health Organization) released a statement cautioning against services that purport to “cure” people with non-heterosexual sexual orientations as they lack medical justification and represent a serious threat to the health and well-being of affected people, and noted that the global scientific and professional consensus is that homosexuality is a normal and natural variation of human sexuality and cannot be regarded as a pathological condition.

The Tea Party and their ilk are a cancer to the body of humanity.

    • Thank you for this comment!!! Republicans apparently hate to read, so are probably unaware of this research. But people need to hear the truth about these “therapies” anyway.

      • Hi Tanya, I appreciate your comment and couldn’t agree more — people do indeed need to know the truth about these harmful ‘therapies’ as well as the harm caused by promoting them. It’s hard to believe we are living in the 21 century. There’s no excuse for such stupidity and bigotry.
