FRONTLINE documentary ‘Secrets of the Vatican’

The FRONTLINE documentary titled “Secrets of the Vatican,” which aired last night, superbly encapsulates the wave of corruption that has plagued the Catholic Church in recent decades.  From the inability of Pope John Paul II to deal with pedophilia and other sexual scandals within the clergy, to the reluctance of Pope Benedict XVI to address gross misconduct inside the powerful Roman Curia and Vatican Bank, the documentary reveals a 1.2 billion-member religious institution in deep crisis and transition.  In its conclusion, the documentary also posed an ominous question regarding the future of the new reform-minded Pope Francis.
