  1. He was such a neat man, wasn’t he? Learned a little more about him this morning that is really interesting – who knew he was a Purple Heart recipient?
“Born in rural northeastern Pennsylvania, Johnson graduated from a private boarding school for orphaned children before joining the Air Force, flying dozens of combat missions in World War II – including one that turned him into a real-life castaway in the Philippines in 1945. Johnson’s B-25 bomber was shot down by heavy flak; he broke both his ankles during the mission, and received the Purple Heart.” http://www.thewrap.com/russell-johnson-professor-gilligans-island-dead-89/

    • Yes, he was. I learned those amazing facts yesterday. Russell had a genuine quality. His acting was pure, and the characters he portrayed were very relatable. I still enjoy watching his Twilight Zone performances, and as a big Gilligan’s Island fan I most frequently entered that fanciful realm through the honest personage of The Professor.
